Rare Patek Philippe watches to be highlighted at Antiquorum

Friday, March 16, 2007

Extremely rare and expensive Patek Philippe watches will be presented at the forthcoming Antiquorum auction sale. The Antiquorum’s Collectors’ Wristwatches, Pocket Watches and Clocks event is to take place on March 28. Over 300 of other timepieces will be sold at the auction.

The participants of the auction sale will have a unique chance to acquire a Patek Philippe Ref. 5029 watch. The brand’s limited edition creation is estimated to reach the price of about 500,000 dollars. It is one of just ten timepieces housed in rose-gold cases that were developed in 1997 to pay tribute to the opening of the new company’s factory in Geneva. The watch powered by a self-winding movement offers a complicated function of a minute-repeater.

Another highlight of the auction will become an equally rare and high-priced Patek Philippe Ref. 5013 watch. The timepiece is meant to be sold at a price range of $400,000 to $500,000. The platinum timekeeper is equipped with a self-winding movement. Besides providing a minute-repeater function, the complicated tonneau-shaped watch has a retrograde perpetual calendar, moon phase indicator and a 48-hour power reserve.

Patek Philippe Ref. 2499 watch will be the third exquisite creation of the brand. It is expected to be acquired at the range of 300,000 to 400,000 dollars. The astronomic timepiece is housed in 18K yellow gold case. The watch offers the following complicated functions – a round-button chronograph, a perpetual calendar, a 30-minute register and moon phase indicator.

The auction will be organized at Antiquorum’s new headquarters located on Madison Avenue, New York City.

Victoria Wyndham on Another World and another life

Thursday, December 13, 2007

Victoria Wyndham was one of the most seasoned and accomplished actresses in daytime soap opera television. She played Rachel Cory, the maven of Another World‘s fictional town, Bay City, from 1972 to 1999 when the show went off the air. Wyndham talks about how she was seen as the anchor of a show, and the political infighting to keep it on the air as NBC wanted to wrest control of the long-running soap from Procter & Gamble. Wyndham fought to keep it on the air, but eventually succumbed to the inevitable. She discusses life on the soap opera, and the seven years she spent wandering “in the woods” of Los Angeles seeking direction, now divorced from a character who had come to define her professional career. Happy, healthy and with a family she is proud of, Wyndham has found life after the death of Another World in painting and animals. Below is David Shankbone’s interview with the soap diva.

Leaders declare new era of EU-African relations

Sunday, December 9, 2007

Leaders of Africa and the European Union have ended their summit in Portugal by declaring a new era in relations aimed at confronting new global challenges. But they could not avoid sparring over some older issues involving human rights and conflict on the continent.

The president of the European Union, Portugal’s Prime Minister Jose Socrates, closed the summit today, saying African and European leaders have turned a new page in history. He says the leaders have adopted an agenda to confront serious challenges of security, governance, migration and climate change.

Nevertheless, long-standing disagreements re-emerged during the two-day meeting.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, in her speech on governance and human rights, accused Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe of harming Africa’s image by quashing political freedom and human rights in his country.

Mr. Mugabe was invited to the summit despite being banned from Europe five years ago because of rigged elections in his country. His attendance prompted a boycott by the prime minister of Britain, Gordon Brown, the former colonial power in Zimbabwe.

The head of the African Union, Ghana’s President John Kufuor, responded to Ms. Merkel’s remarks by noting that South African President Thabo Mbeki is mediating talks between Zimbabwe’s ruling party and the opposition in an effort to bring free and fair elections next year.

“It is not for anybody to just move in there and impose a solution,” he said. “We want to encourage a home-grown solution so there will be a restoration of normalcy and good governance for the people of Zimbabwe.”

Several European leaders met with Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir and strongly urged him to allow the deployment of U.N. and A.U. troops to end bloodshed and suffering in its Darfur region. Sudan has accepted this hybrid force, but has rejected troops from non-African countries.

Mr. Kufuor said Africa has taken the initiative on the issue, though he acknowledged it has taken some time to assemble the hybrid force.

“I believe with good will all around the hybrid force will be put together so at least humanitarian actions can be brought to the people of Darfur,” added Mr. Kufuor.

African leaders also objected to the E.U. efforts to forge temporary trade agreements with developing nations, which they say will unleash excessive competition on their emerging economies. The European Union says these are needed because existing accords are due to expire at the end of this month.

E.U. Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso noted that these are temporary agreements that are meant to maintain tariff exemptions for African exports to the European Union.

“Once we have settled this transitional phase, we [will] have the time and the spirit to address development issues and important concerns that were raised also from the African Union side,” said Barroso.

He said he believes that all but a few African governments will sign the interim accords by the end of the year.

The leaders agreed to hold their next summit in a couple of years on African soil.

Celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Frank Ryan dies in car accident aged 50

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Plastic surgeon to the stars Dr. Frank Ryan has died in a car accident at age 50. It is reported that the Jeep Ryan was driving crashed over the side of the Pacific Coast Highway and landed on rocks. Lifeguards were first on the scene and unsuccessfully tried to rescue Ryan. It is thought that no other vehicle was involved in the incident.

Dr. Ryan, a celebrity in his own right, performed plastic surgery on several stars including Janice Dickinson, Gene Simmons, Shauna Sand and Adrianne Curry. He appeared on several television shows and became one of the first people to perform plastic surgery on television in 1995.

A representative for Janice Dickinson released a statement about the death of Ryan. She said “Janice is deeply, deeply anguished! She is stunned and wants the world to know what a genius Dr. Ryan was.”

Ryan was traveling with his pet dog at the time of the crash; the dog was found seriously injured in the ocean and was transported to a local veterinarian. Dr. Ryan was pronounced dead at the scene.

PUNCH HHO is ready to announce the new PUHCH HHO Home Heating System. PUNCHHHO.COM was the first to deliver the use of hydrogen as an automobile fuel system supplement and now a home heating source. After the initial discovery PUNCHHHO.COM made their study available to the public in the form of downloadable plans and schematics, and now their HHO Plans have been purchased by people all around the world. Of the many questions and inquiries made to PUNCHHHO.COM, one is more prevalent than all the others, are your HHO plans better than the others on the market? Simply put, the answer is YES. Many of you are familiar with PUNCH HHO s dry cell plan (www.drycellplans.com ). The plans for the PUNCH HHO HHU (Hydrogen/Oxygen Home Heating Unit) contain the same professional-quality text, images and detailed video instruction that you would expect from their other professional-quality products, not to mention service and support after the sale through direct contact with Tom and the support forums.

Utilizing Hydrogen and Oxygen Gas to boost gasoline consumption in trucks has been met with both pros and challenges. The simple truth is that it works for some and does not work for others. There are just too many things that can go wrong to say that Brown’s Gas supplementation for cars or trucks works to improve mileage every time. One thing is sure, Brown’s Gas will burn and the hydrogen mixture will produce a great amount of heat.

This is where the idea of using electrolysis to create hydrogen to use for heating your home comes in.

Fact: hydrogen can be easily created from regular water with a catalysis and electricity.

Fact: hydrogen will burn.

Fact: hydrogen produces a massive amount of heat. A simple hydrogen torch will melt tungsten which has a melting point of 6,192 F.

So realistically, the only thing standing between you and using this cheap, clean and powerful element to heat your dwelling is knowing what to do to build your own Hydrogen HHU.

PUNCHHO.COM is offering a simple, easy-to-follow instruction series on how to build your own Hydrogen Home Heating System. These units can be built for less than it costs to heat an average home for one month and a unit will comfortably heat a 1200 square foot space for pennies a day.

Do your research and when you are ready to buy your Hydrogen Home Heat Unit Plans, remember the rock-solid reputation and professionalism that comes with the PUNCH HHO name, and then you decide in whom you trust.

Australian swim team pulled from Rio training pool when water turns ‘soupy’

Saturday, August 6, 2016

Concerns about water quality at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games have expanded to include the inside training pool: top Australian swimming coach Michael Bohl moved his Olympic athletes from the main training pool on Thursday citing fear of infection.

The team had a pre-booked session in the training pool where they would have practiced uninterrupted. However, during the session the water in the pool turned, as Bohl described, “cloudy” and “soupy looking”. Concerned about his athletes’ health, he moved them from the training pool to the busier, but cleaner, main competition pool.

Bohl took his concerns to officials and was told the matter would be looked into.

This comes off the back of other water concerns in Rio, particularly in the Guanabara Bay venue for outdoor water events. An Associated Press-commissioned study found Rio’s Olympic waterways contained as much as 1.7 million times worse viral levels than the emergency threshold in Europe or the US. As a result, athletes were advised to keep their mouths closed and avoid putting their heads underwater or risk falling ill.

Swimming events at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games are to begin today.

Satellite phone subsidy to be extended in Australia

Monday, May 15, 2006

Senator Helen Coonan, Australian minister for communication, information technology and the arts, has announced the federal government will be extending its subsidy on satellite telephone handsets.

The scheme allows those living or working in parts of remote Australia without conventional mobile telephone services to claim a subsidy of up to AU$1,200 on the purchase of a satellite telephone.

The program was supposed to run for five years from 2002 until 2007. The program will continue until 2009.

In addition to the extension, the scheme’s eligibility criteria will be changed from July 1, 2006 to ensure that the scheme “continues to be well targeted,” according to Senator Coonan.

The changes will allow aboriginal corporations and educational institutions to claim the subsidy, which were previously ineligible. “These changes include increasing the level of support available to Indigenous corporations who may now be able to receive more than two subsidies in some circumstances, and introducing educational institutions as an eligible category,” Senator Coonan said.

The government will also change the way the subsidy is calculated. In the past, it had been calculated based upon the call plan chosen by the customer. The government will now calculate the subsidy based on the amount of time the customer spends in remote areas. Those operating a business in areas without ground-based mobile telephone services will be eligible for the full AU$1,200 subsidy, while those who spend some time in such areas will be eligible for AU$900.

South African prosecutors charge ANC leader Jacob Zuma with corruption

Saturday, December 29, 2007

File:JacobZuma.jpg

Corruption-related charges have been brought against Jacob Zuma, the newly-elected leader of the African National Congress (ANC), according to his lawyer. A trial is scheduled to begin on August 14, 2008.

The charges stem from an arms deal with a French company, which is alleged to have involved bribes and fraud. Zuma’s financial adviser at the time, Schabir Shaik, was convicted in 2005 of attempting to solicit a bribe of US$72,500 per year from the arms company on Zuma’s behalf and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Zuma was fired as deputy president in 2005 by South African President Thabo Mbeki due to the scandal.

Two-term ANC leader Mbeki recently lost an ANC leadership contest to Jacob Zuma, who garnered about 60 percent of delegate votes in his win.

Zuma had been charged with corruption in 2005, but the case was dismissed on procedural grounds. Michael Hulley, Zuma’s defence lawyer, indicated that they will strongly contest the new charges in court. Hulley also suggested that the South African government’s National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and its anti-organised crime division known as The Scorpions, have carried out a smear campaign against Zuma.

“These charges will be vigorously defended, in the context of the belief that the Scorpions (NPA) have acted wrongly and with improper motive calculated to discredit Mr. Zuma and ensure that he play no leadership role in the political future of our country,” said Michael Hulley in a statement.

Given that the ANC has been the governing party in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994, it is likely that Jacob Zuma could become the next president after general elections in 2009. Zuma has said, however, that he would resign if he was found guilty by the courts.

Looking For The Perfect Straight Teeth?}

Looking For The Perfect Straight Teeth?}

Looking for the perfect straight teeth?

by

Catherine Padley

Some peoples teeth naturally grow and develop out of line and out of shape, and dont know what to do about them, but now they can have braces to correct their teeth, and ultimately make sure they have new straight perfect teeth.

There are three types of braces, there are the conventional orthodontic braces, which are metal braces attached to the front of the teeth, lingual braces which are attached to the back of the teeth, and Invisalign braces which are liners that fit over your teeth to move them into your position gradually over time.

Conventional braces are the combination of brackets and wires that are attached to the front of your teeth, the brackets grip onto the teeth and the wires are tightened or loosened in order to give you the desired position of your teeth. The wires are attached to the brackets that are attached to your teeth.

During this time the wire will try to straighten itself out and return to its desired position, this in turn will help to straighten out your teeth. As an option from these braces you can choose to have tooth coloured braces which are very hard to detect and are virtually invisible. Braces can be worn by adults and children alike, it is advised though that children do not start to have treatment until they have their full set of teeth around the age of 7 or 8.

Lingual braces are the same concept of conventional braces, although they are put onto the back of the teeth so not to be seen when opening their mouth, this can be an advantage to people as they may find braces embarrassing, and they want to hide that they are having to have this treatment done, the disadvantages of lingual braces are that they are generally more expensive than normal braces, and they also disrupt your speech more than the others, but you will get used to them in a couple of days.

The most innovative and newest type of braces is the Invisalign range of braces. A 3D map of your mouth is taken, and moulds are made from this model which in turn creates the Invisalign braces that help to correct your teeth. Unlike conventional braces, the Invisalign is invisible and create little to no discomfort, and they can also be removed, this means that during the process of the Invisalign you can continue to brush and floss your teeth as you would without the braces; cleanliness is also paramount so that the braces can work to the best of their ability. If you are worried that you may be embarrassed about having braces and that people may judge you on the look of conventional braces then maybe Invisaligns the way forward for you.

East Bentleigh Dental Group in Melbourne, VIC provide Invisalign braces. For more information please visit
